Coffee Time Chat

It all started with Taiwan.

“Hi! I’m your new English teacher. Let me introduce myself a little!”

This is what I usually start with when I meet a new Korean student.

“My name is ___. I’ve been teaching English for two years now, and I’m from America – but right now I’m teaching English in Taiwan for one year.”

It’s at this point that there’s a moment of silence, followed by an unsure or incredulous voice, “Taiwan??”

Last year right about now, I’d recently graduated with my BS and had been applying to different nursing schools. Unfortunately, I didn’t get in to any schools that I wanted, so I decided to try again this year. In the meantime, I moved with my partner to Taiwan for about a year to teach English there and experience a culture very different from my own. He and I both teach English in private schools here, and in the morning/evenings I also teach Korean adults and Korean college students English over the phone. I’ve lived abroad before, but never in a place with such a different background. It’s been amazing so far, and one of the many ways its affected me is my beauty routine and my cosmetics collection.

I’d never been one to use much makeup – throughout high school and college the most I’d do is my eye makeup and my lips. After I graduated I discovered foundation and it exploded from there. My newfound interests have taken me through twists and turns in the makeup world (I delved into drugstore products, had a high-end phase, then an all-natural phase, then a more evidence-based phase) and now I’ve fallen head over heels with asian beauty products! Once my big move had been decided, I started poring over what kinds cosmetics I could expect to see in Taiwan, and I discovered /r/AsianBeauty and /r/SkincareAddiction. Thank you so much to both of those subs, you guys are the best! They have guided me on my journey to AB and skincare wisdom, and now I feel like I can hold my own enough to start blogging about my AB experience.

I look forward to sharing my stories because I hope they will be as helpful as others were on my own journey! And I look forward to hearing from all of you as well! Thanks for stopping by and I hope this blog is helpful to you! CCW! 🙂
